On August 22, Samsung Korea News blog posted an announcement of two phones— Samsung Galaxy A50s and Galaxy A30s— going official. Both of these two newly announced smartphones has few mentionable upgrades on the camera department and design. But other than that, everything else on the A30s looks identical to half-year-old Galaxy A30. So, the question remains, is the new A30s worth the upgrade over the old A30? Find out the overview and comparison below between the A30s and the A30, and decide for yourself.

Design and Display

Samsung Galaxy A30s shares the DNA from the predecessor A30. At first glance, the phone doesn’t seem distinct from Galaxy A30 or alongside announced Galaxy A50s. On the front, the phone also has a 6.4-inch SUPER AMOLED display with a dewdrop notch at the top and chin at the bottom. Except, the 720-by-1560 screen, with 268 ppi, on the phone sees a downgrade from 1080-by-2340 screen, with 403 ppi, on the predecessor A30.

You’ll find a similar configuration of 3.5mm headphone jack, followed by USB Type-C port and a speaker grille on the bottom edge.

However, the back of the phone is completely redesigned with all-new futuristic holographic effects and geometric patterns. And the new A30s is available in four new colors; Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White, Prism Crush Green and Prism Crush Violet. Moreover, the back panel misses the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner like on old A30 because the new A30s has now in-display fingerprint sensor for biometric logins and security.

Upgraded to Triple Rear Cameras

Jumping onto the major upgrade and USP of this iteration, the triple rear cameras on the phone. The Galaxy A30s rocks a combination of 25MP + 8MP + 5MP cameras on the back. Where the 25-megapixel main camera is of f/1.7 aperture and capable of PDAF, accompanied by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 5-megapixel sensor for depth sensing and portrait shots. To sweeten your photography cravings, the phone has newly introduced smart camera tools such as Intelligent Flaw Detector and Scene Optimizer.

And for the selfie lovers, the A30s has settled for the same 16-megapixel lens with f/2.0 aperture as found on the A30.

Performance, Software, and Battery

The Galaxy A30s, instead of taking a leap, takes a backstep on performance and selecting chipset. The company could have gone for the latest mid-range SoC but chose to fall back to nearly two-years-old Exynos 7885 chipset. That said, this could be because early 2019 launched Exynos 7904 SoC used on Galaxy A30 is actually low performing when compared to Exynos 7885. (Source: Notebookcheck)

Moving to other hardware, the phone comes into two RAM variants and three storage variants; 3GB RAM with 32GB storage, 4GB RAM with 64GB storage, and a maxed-out 6GB RAM with 128GB storage. The storage can be bumped up to 1TB via a dedicated slot.

Software-wise, the A30s runs on OneUI atop Android 9.0 (Pie), with few bloatware pre-installed. On the battery part, there is no upgrade, where the same 15W 4000mAh found on the A30, the A50, and the new A50s fuels the device.

Samsung Galaxy A30s Price in Nepal

The A30 was officially announced via Samsung Korea News blog and there is no word on how much should it be priced for. But seeing the very few noteworthy upgrades from its older brother A30, we expected the price in Nepal for the Samsung Galaxy A30s (4/128GB) to be around NPR 28,000 but it seems Samsung Nepal went way ahead to price this. As the handset is available to shop from Oct 20th, Samsung set the Galaxy A30s (4/128GB) price in Nepal to be Rs. 31,890 which is totally overpriced what the device offers.

In fact, just because the A30s is comparatively new, it doesn’t mean the phone is worthy to upgrade. More powerful phones from the company itself such as Galaxy M30s, Galaxy M40, and Galaxy A50 are available for under 30000 price in Nepal. Besides in this price segment, the A30s has to fight against Realme 5, Xiaomi Mi A3, Vivo S1, and OPPO K3 which obviously fails to impress!
