Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra brings the magic of Galaxy AI to Nepal

Samsung held a grand event announcing the arrival of its latest flagship phone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, in Nepal. The global launch event took place in the US a week ago.

So, let’s look at what the new Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has to offer, along with its Nepali pricing.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Everything You Need to Know

Up until now, the only credible rival to the Galaxy Ultra has been Apple’s Pro/Pro Max. However, the company has been facing competition from within the Android ecosystem, with the likes of Pixel.

I guess it’s the reason Samsung is riding on the AI hype train.

Meet the Galaxy AI

The biggest addition to this year’s S series is the suite of AI features that Samsung called Galaxy AI.

Some of the Galaxy AI are not new, and some are not even exclusive to Samsung. Take the Generative AI image tool that Google developed for its Pixel devices.

Google also has its contribution in the Circle to Search feature. As a result, the feature is available for Pixel devices as well.

The most talked about Galaxy AI feature is probably the Live Translate, which can translate conversations in real time. It is built into the phone app and requires no third-party extension.

A similar feature is built into the recording app, which can now transcribe, summarize, and translate recordings, all with the help of AI.

Even the Galaxy Keyboard is now able to translate directly into 15+ languages. It can even help you maintain the tone of text conversations with its suggestions.

ProVisual Engine

The AI magic extends to the camera as well. Not that Samsung is new to utilizing AI for images.

Remember the whole fake moon shot debacle last year? Samsung says the Space Zoom, which debuted on the S20 Ultra, feature has gotten better with even more detail.

Samsung is also feeding gyro data into its image signal processor, allowing S24 Ultra to distinguish between camera and subject movement.

As a result, it can apply noise reduction more effectively, resulting in better low-light photos overall.

You don’t even need to wait for image processing to see what the end result looks like. The Live Preview gives you a glimpse even before you press the shutter button.

Samsung even claims that these AI camera features will work seamlessly with Instagram and Snapchat.

Swapping 10x telephoto with 5x

Outside of the AI nuances, other changes on S24 Ultra can only be best described as incremental.

Take the camera, for example. This year, Samsung didn’t spend a lot of time outlining the camera, which is odd given how cameras have become a bragging right for any smartphone, especially the flagship ones.

Coming to the camera, the rear quad camera setup is led by the same 200MP main image sensor as last year. The 12MP ultrawide camera has remained the same, and so is the 3x telephoto unit.

Samsung has actually swapped the final 10x telephoto with a new 5x lens but still says the quality has remained the same. The early hands-on review also confirms that. So, what’s really happening?

While the previous telephoto camera had 10x zoom, the 10MP sensor meant the output was not always clear and sharp.

On the other hand, the new 5x sensor is capable of capturing more light with its 50MP sensor. As a result, it results in “better” looking 10x zoom images, even if it’s achieved digitally.

Thus, you can now shoot at 1x, 3x, 5x, and 10x (digital). This also means the phone can now capture a 5x portrait as the iPhone.

The larger sensor size, along with the wider OIS correction angle, also improves the lowlight performance of the system.

As for video, the S24 Ultra can now record 4K/120 fps and 8K videos at 5x optical zoom. This may not sound super useful, but it gives editors more options if they know what they are doing.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 replaces its predecessor in the chip department. It dons the “For Galaxy” branding just like last year, indicating it is the overclocked version of Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor.

The phone also boasts the biggest vapor chamber in a Samsung Galaxy, which is 1.9 times larger than the one in the S23 Ultra. This, together with the power-efficient process of 8 Gen 3, should result in a cooler device overall.

The chip promises 30% better graphics performance, and Samsung is even hinting at Ray Tracing and optimized gaming with gaming partners. But will any of that materialize? We’ll have to see.

New Titanium Frame and Gorilla Armor Glass

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, like the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, now sports Titanium frames. This should result in the frame being more durable and scratch-resistant.

Samsung already used Aluminum on its flagship, so don’t expect the difference in weight to be as big as Apple’s switch from Stainless Steel.

At the front, Samsung has deployed a new Gorilla Glass Armor glass with reduced reflection over the last generation.

Flatter, Brighter Display

The display gets rid of the curved side and boasts a peak brightness of 2600 nits. That aside, the rest of the specs are the same. You are getting a 6.8-inch QHD+ AMOLED screen with a variable refresh rate of 1Hz to 120Hz.

Software, Battery, and Charging

Samsung is promising 7 years of software updates on top of the Andriod 14-based One UI 6.1 that the phone ships with.

Finally, the Galaxy S24 Ultra packs a 5,000mAh battery with support for 45W wired and 15W wireless charging.
