Telegram is a cloud-based fast and simple instant messaging application. It is one of the fastest messaging apps having an easy-to-use interface. Using this app you can send media files without any limits. The data will be stored on the Telegram cloud so you don’t have to worry about storage on your device. During this amid Coronavirus lockdown, the users of Telegram have increased subsequently resulting in more than 400,000,000 monthly users and now have crossed more than 500,000,000 downloads from Google Play Store.
Telegram is rapidly growing its user base and there are numerous supporting factors on it. This instant messaging app is free of ads, powerful, secure, and supports cross-platform (Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, and Linux-32 bit/ 64-bit, web). As per the officials, there is 1.5 million new customers’ sign up every day. Especially during this quarantine users access Telegram for remote working and study purposes.
If we look are other popular messaging apps, Google Messages has secured one billion installations and WhatsApp has five billion installations. On comparing these data with Telegram, you may think that Telegram has fewer numbers but the important distinction is that Telegram completely relies on users download while other messaging apps come pre-installed in most of the devices.
On reaching this milestone, Telegram developers also stated that soon they will be adding video conferencing features. Video Conferencing Service is one of the most utilized services during this lockdown. Zoom Video Conferencing Tool had some security issues while Google Meet Premium is now free to use during the lockdown.
As per the Telegram developers, “What’s next, you might ask? The current global lockdown highlighted the need for a trusted video communication tool. Video calls in 2020 are much like messaging in 2013. There are apps that are either secure or usable, but not both. We’d like to fix that, and we will focus on bringing you secure group video calls in 2020.”
We are curious to see the Telegram usability of Telegram’s Video Conferencing Services in the future as they have promised to solve both security and usability issues. For now, Telegram has added features like Quiz Mode (Better Quizzes), 20,000 Stickers, New Attachment Menu, and Bulleye. They also have made some improvements to macOS. To support the people on such harsh situation Telegram added,
“With 2 billion students currently away from schools, the world is in dire need of online educational tools. We’d like to contribute to solving this problem by creating a database of educational tests for all subjects and levels. To do that, today we’re announcing a crowdsourcing initiative in which we will distribute EUR 400,000 among creators of educational tests.”
