OPPO has been doing great with its A-series smartphone. The OPPO A5s and OPPO A3s was a success in the Nepali market. The company has now brought a new OPPO A9 2020 and OPPO A5 2020 in the A-series lineup, where both the phones are basically an upgraded and redesigned version of Q1-released OPPO A9 and A5. The OPPO A9 2020 goes competent with its aggressive Rs. 35000 (expected) price, fighting the glory for the best smartphones under 40000 in Nepal.

Design and Display
Gone the days when the smartphones used to be aesthetically boring. Like the most of the most smartphones we’ve already seen (Realme 5 Pro, Realme XT), the new OPPO A9 (2020) takes a beautiful approach to 3D design with its ergonomic body for a better grip.
Besides the back panel now has vertically aligned quad-camera setup sitting on the top-middle of the phone followed by fingerprint scanner below it. Unfortunately, you will find a microUSB 2.0 for charging and a single bottom-firing speaker grille on the bottom edge. But again, for good, there is 3.5mm headphone jack intact and top call-receiving speaker aids the bottom-firing speaker to act as dual speakers.
On the front, however, the A9 (2020) feels like a downgraded, when compared to the predecessor A9, with its 6.5-inches 720-by-1600 HD+ display. The 395 PPI on the A9 has dropped to 270 PPI on the A9 (2020). This screen is protected with Gorilla Glass 3.

48MP Quad Cameras with EIS
Ah, the quad cameras, the thing we love to see how the mid-range smartphones have been embracing it. The A9 (2020) sports a quad-camera setup of 48MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP. The 48MP lens is a primary wide sensor of f/1.8 aperture followed by another 8MP 119-degree FOV ultra-wide angle sensor with f/2.3 aperture. And two addition 2MP sensors of f/2.4 aperture for depth sensing effects and mono shots. The application of dual-LED dual-tone flash alongside the Ultra Night Mode 2.0 tweaked inside the software, the A9 (2020) can take serious night shots at low-light conditions. The rear cameras lack slo-mo features, capable of shooting 4K and FHD videos at 30 fps. Though the handset misses on OIS, it employs gyro-EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation) for enabling to shoot stable videos.
The front waterdrop notch confines the same 16MP selfie camera of f/2.0 aperture found on the A9 with HDR support and capable of recording 1080p videos at 30 fps.

Performance and Software
Other than the camera department, the A9 (2020) sees an improvement in the performance over the April-released OPPO A9 variant. That said, the new A9 (2020) houses Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset, 11nm manufactured promising a better performance in comparison to the A9’s Helio P70 (12nm). This SD665 is accompanied by Adreno 610 graphics unit.
Speaking of the memory, the device comes in two options 4GB or maxed out 8GB RAM along with 128GB storage option. And if you feel the 128GB storage isn’t enough, the A9 2020 supports storage expansion up to 256GB with its dedicated microSD slot.
On the software part, the phone comes with ColorOS 6.1 based on Android 9.0 (Pie) out of the box.
5000mAh Mega Battery
One thing that impresses us is the 5000mAh beast battery. As per the company claims the A9 2020 can last up to 11 hours of HD videos watching and the best thing is this 5000mAh can be lent to someone else too with the reverse charging functionality.
