Powerful Flagships launched by Samsung: Galaxy S20 & S20 Plus with 120Hz display & 64MP cameras

During the Samsung Unpack event, Samsung not only announced Galaxy Z Flip but also announced ‘S’ series flagships as well. Setting aside all the rumors, Samsung finally announced Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra. The Samsung Galaxy S20 series is packed with flagship features. In fact, the Galaxy S20, the S20 Plus, and the S20 Ultra have bumped up every possible specs and features department from S10 series. This time Samsung has made increased it’s battery capacity as well given the power-demanding specs. The expected price of Samsung Galaxy S20 in Nepal is around Rs 1,20,000 and Galaxy S20 Plus is ~ Rs 1,30,000.

Design and Display

Samsung S20 houses 6.2-inch Quad HD+, dynamic AMOLED, infinity-O display. It has a screen resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels. Not only that it is HDR10+ certified as well. S20 supports a 120 Hz screen refresh rate. For the protection, we have corning gorilla glass 6. The power button and the volume rockers are placed on the right edge of the device. Sadly, we do not have a 3.5mm headphone jack on S20. There’s an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor.  It is IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 mins).

Triple Rear Camera Setup

Samsung Galaxy S20 rocks the camera department. For the selfie camera, we have 10MP, f/2.2, 26mm (wide), dual Pixel PDAF lens. The selfie lens is confined by the punch hole on the top center of the device. With the selfie camera, you can shoot videos 2160p@30/60fps and 1080p@300fps.

For the rear camera, we have a triple camera lens setup. This consists of 12 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), Dual Pixel PDAF, OIS + 64 MP, f/2.0, (telephoto), PDAF, OIS, 3x hybrid optical zoom + 12 MP, f/2.2, 13mm (ultrawide), AF, Super Steady video. This triple camera setup is aligned vertically on the top-left corner of the device. With the rear camera, you can shoot videos 4320p@30fps, 2160p@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/240fps, with features like dual-video rec., stereo sound rec., gyro-EIS & OIS, HDR10+.

Performance, Software, and Battery

Powering the S20 Exynos 990 (7nm+) is coupled with 8GB of RAM. For the internal storage, there’s 128GB available. This can be expanded with microSDXC. For the GPU there’s Mali-G77 MP11. S20 runs on Android 10.0 alongside One UI 2.0. But on the USA variant, the SoC consists of Snapdragon 865(7nm+) alongside Adreno 650.

Massive 4000mAh battery fuels S20. It supports 25-Watt fast charging, 15-Watt fast Qi/PMA wireless charging, and 9-Watt power bank/ reverse wireless charging. It also has USB Power Delivery 3.0. The loudspeakers placed on the bottom edge are tuned by AKG. Cosmic Grey, Cloud Blue, Cloud Pink, Cosmic White are the available color variants.

S20 looks impressive in all aspects. The 4000mAh battery, 6.2-inch quad HD display, 8GB of RAM, 25-Watt fast charging all are packed into S20. Pre-booking of Samsung S20 has started in Nepal and is scheduled to be launched on March 13, 2020. As for the pricing, S20 is priced at NPR 107,499.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus houses a 6.7-inch Quad HD dynamic AMOLED 2X display. It has a screen resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels. Both back and the front of the device are protected with corning gorilla glass 6. Just like S20, S20+ is also HDR10+ certified. It also supports a 120 Hz screen refresh rate. The power button and the volume rockers are placed on the right edge of the device. For the fingerprint sensor, we have an under-display ultrasonic sensor. It is IP68 dust/water resistant (up to 1.5m for 30 mins). There’s no sight of 3.55mm audio headphone jack on S20+ as well.

Quad Rear Cameras

For the camera department, S20 Plus nails everything. On the selfie camera, we have 10 MP, f/2.2, 26mm (wide), Dual Pixel PDAF lens. It is confined by the centered punch-hole. With this selfie lens, you can shoot videos 2160p@30/60fps, 1080p@30fps. Other features like Dual video call, Auto-HDR are also available.

On the rear camera, S20 Plus rocks triple camera lens setup. This consists of 12 MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide), 1/1.76″, 1.8µm, Dual Pixel PDAF, OIS + 64 MP, f/2.0, (telephoto), 0.8µm, PDAF, OIS, 3x hybrid optical zoom + 12 MP, f/2.2, 13mm (ultrawide), 1.4µm, AF, Super Steady video, 0.3 MP, TOF 3D, (depth). With these lenses, you can shoot videos 4320p@24fps, 2160p@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/240fps, 720p@960fps. Other features like HDR10+, dual-video rec., stereo sound rec., gyro-EIS & OIS are also available.
