The year 2020 so far does not look that good for smartphones. Most of the tech events are either canceled or postponed. The release of smartphones is delayed due to this pandemic lockdown. But gradually this situation is getting better. Recently, OnePlus unveiled its latest flagships, OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro, and Bullet Wireless Z earbuds. But this buzz was soon stolen, as Apple announced its long-awaited low-cost iPhone SE. Now, Huawei-s sub-brand Honor also announced its 2020’s flagship Honor 30 lineup — Honor 30, 30 Pro and 30 Pro Plus. The expected price of Honor 30 is Rs 60,000 and Honor 30 Pro is Rs 80,000 in Nepal.
Honor 30
Design and Display
Honor 30 houses 6.53-inch OLED display having 1080 x 2400 pixels. It comes with a top-left aligned punch-hole cutout. On the bottom edge, we have a slightly visible chin. It has nearly 86.6% screen-to-body ratio and a 20:9 aspect ratio. Looking at the device aesthetics, it has both the power button and the volume rockers placed on the right edge of the device. For the fingerprint sensor, we have an under-display optical scanner. Sadly, there’s no sign of a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
40MP Rear Quad Camera Setup
The camera department on Honor 30 looks great on paper. It has a periscope lens, optical zoom, and many more features. For the selfie camera, we have a 32MP lens. It is confined by the punch-hole cutout on the top-left corner of the device. With the selfie lens, you can shoot videos 2160p, 1080p with gyro-EIS.
On the rear camera department, we have a quad camera setup. This consists of 40MP (wide) + Periscope 8MP (telephoto) + 8MP (ultrawide) + 2MP (depth). The 8MP periscope lens comes with 5X optical zoom. With these lenses you can shoot videos 2160p@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60fps, 720p@960fps; gyro-EIS. The lenses are aligned in a rectangular setup with an LED flash as well.
Performance, Software, and Battery
Powering the Honor 30 HiSilicon Kirin 985 5G (7nm) is coupled with 6/8 GB of RAM. For the GPU we have Mali-G77. It runs on Android 10.0 with Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) alongside Magic UI 3.1.
This device comes in three storage variants, 6/128GB, 8/128GB and 8/256GB. The 128 GB variant is expandable up to 256GB using a nano memory that uses a shared SIM slot. The 4000mAh battery fuel this flagship. It also supports 40-watt fast charging and 5-watt reverse charging. For the charging port, we have standard USB Type-C. Titanium Silver, Emerald Green, Midnight Black, Icelandic Frost, and Neon purple are the available color variants.

Looking at the spec sheets, Honor 30 looks better for a mid-range device. The 40MP rear quad camera setup, 32MP selfie camera, 6.53-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution, 40-watt fast charging all are packed under the hood of Honor 30. This device will be available for purchase from 21 April. Honor 30 is priced as CNY 2,999 ($425) for 6/128GB, CNY 3,199 ($450) for 8/128GB, and CNY 3,499 ($495) for 8/256GB.
There is no official confirmation on the price and availability of Honor 30 in Nepal. But we can expect the best. As per speculations, the price of Honor 30 in Nepal will be Rs 60,000 for 6/128GB, Rs 65,000 for 8/128GB, and Rs 70,000 for 8/256GB. Honor 30 Pro
Design and Display
There are only a few changes here and there on Honor 30 Pro if we compare it to Honor 30. Honor 30 Pro flaunts 6.57-inch display having 1080 x 2340 FHD+ resolution. It has an approximately 89.8% screen-to-body ratio with an aspect ratio of 19:5:9.
Looking at the device aesthetics, Honor 30 Pro also has both the power button and volume rockers placed on the right edge of the device. There’s a glass back bounded by the aluminum frame. It is IP54 splash-proof. There’s no sight of a 3.5mm headphone jack on 30 Pro as well. For the fingerprint sensor, we have a similar under-display optical sensor.
Rear Quad & Dual Selfie Camera
Both Honor 30 and Honor 30 Pro has similar stunning camera configuration except for the selfie camera. Honor Pro 30 rocks a total of six camera lenses. For the selfie camera, there are dual lenses of 32MP (wide) + 8MP (ultrawide). The dual-lens is confined by the punch-hole cut on the top-left corner. With the selfie camera, you can shoot videos 2160p, 1080p with gyro-EIS.
For the rear camera, we have the same quad-camera configuration as of Honor 30 with an increase in ultrawide lens only. This consists of 40MP (wide) + Periscope 8MP (telephoto) + 16MP (ultrawide) + 2MP (depth). The 8MP periscope lens comes with 5X optical zoom. With these lenses you can shoot videos 2160p@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60fps, 720p@960fps; gyro-EIS. The lenses are aligned in a rectangular setup with an LED flash as well.

Honor 30 Pro only has some changes. It has a bump in the camera department, an increased number in the ultrawide lens, and an additional selfie camera. For the internals, it runs on 7nm+ chipset and comes only in two storage variants. Other than these most of the features are similar to Honor 30. This device will also be available for purchase from 21 April but you can pre-order. It is priced as CNY 3,999 ($565) for 8/128GB and CNY 4,399 ($620) for 8/256GB.
There is no official confirmation on the price and availability of Honor 30 Pro in Nepal. If it makes its way to the Nepali market, people, the price of Honor 30 Pro in Nepal should be around Rs 80,000 for 8/128GB and Rs 85,000 for 8/256GB.
