Design and Display

Google Pixel 4 is the successor of Google Pixel 3. This device has numerous improvements from its previous flagship. Pixel 4 flaunts its 5.7-inches full HD + OLED panel display. The bezel on the top may be one thing to worry about for bezel-less display lovers. Pixel 4 has gravitating 90Hz display [similar to OnePlus 7T]. This aids better gaming experience and smoother scrolling. Both of the front and the back glass are protected with Gorilla Glass 5. The aluminum frame is bound on the circumference of the device. Both the power button and the volume keys are placed on the right edge of the device. Pixel 4 has IP68 dust/water-resistant. Other than the bezel on the top, the display of Pixel 4 is quite impressive.

Camera

For the camera department, Google has introduced its ‘first multi-lens rear imaging system ever’. We have 8 MP, f/2.0, 22mm (wide) TOF 3D camera, Auto-HDR for the selfie camera.  With this, you can shoot videos 1080@30fps.

Pixel 4 has packs dual rear camera having setup just like iPhone11. On the other hand, we’ve seen the flagships like recently launched OnePlus 7T Pro packs triple rear cameras and even quad-cameras (Huawei Mate 30). But this is the upgrade that Google made from its previous devices. But it’s not just a regular dual rear camera, it offers machine learning-based white balancing and new live HDR+ features that will give you the best possible photo result. Not only that, Google’s Super Res Zoom technology allows you to crop in 10x without the worry of losing the details. The dual rear camera consists of 12.2 MP, f/1.7, 28mm (main lens), dual pixel PDAF, OIS + 16 MP, f/2.4, 45mm (telephoto), PDAF, OIS, 2x optical zoom.

Other than this there is dual-LED flash aligned in a square setup. With these lenses you can shoot videos 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps, 1080p@30fps, gyro-EIS stabilization enabled. Besides, the Night Sight is now more refined and lets you click astronomical shots of stars.

Performance, Software, and Battery

Powering the Pixel 4 Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 855, this device is coupled with 6GB of RAM. The device runs on the latest Android 10 with Adreno 10 as the GPU. For the storage variant, there is an option for 64 GB and 128 GB models. Sadly there’s no expansion slot for the memory.

One of the most disappointing aspects here is the small 2800mAh battery the Pixel 4 houses. However, there it does support 18-Watt fast charging and has a QI wireless charging as well. As Google is too confident on its FaceID, they’ve opted out of fingerprint biometric sensor. Alongside the improved Face ID, there is improved Google Assistance as well.

Early Verdict

Pros Cons
Better performing Qualcomm SD855 No fingerprint sensor
IP rating for dust and water resistance No storage expansion slot
90Hz buttery smooth display Only 2800mAh battery
Motion Sense feature No headphone jack, and doesn’t include pair of headphones inside the box

Google Pixel 4 Price in Nepal

Surely Pixel 4 is an improved version of Pixel 3. This device totally rocks on the camera department with its extraordinary features. Although there are lots of compromising on this device, it comes at a high price. So, considering what it offers and being the flagship model, we can expect the price of Google Pixel 4 in Nepal to be around Rs 1,00,000 (via grey markets as there’re no official distributors for Google devices in Nepal). This is just the rough calculation with no confirmation.

However, the Pixel 4 will start shipping from Oct 24 globally (in selected regions) and is available in three bizarre-named colors; Clearly White, Just Black, and a limited edition, Oh So Orange.
