Sensor Tower, the leading provider of market intelligence and insights for the global economy has released the most download numbers for January 2021. For the most downloaded non-gaming app, worldwide Telegram tops the chart with more than 63 million installs. This is 3.8 times the download in January 2020 as per Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform.
Telegram Tops the Chart
The Sensor Tower released three types of non-game download charts: Overall Downloads, App Store Downloads, and Google Play Downloads. On the App Store Downloads TikTok is on the top followed by YouTube. Here the Telegram sits on the fourth spot. On the Google Play Download Telegram tops the chart followed by Signal and then TikTok. On the Overall Download, we have Telegram on the first spot followed by TikTok.
India was the highest contributing country for downloads of Telegram with 24 percent (15 million installs) followed by Indonesia with 10 percent. The sudden spark in the installation of Telegram in India can be credited to the controversy of WhatsApp’s privacy policy. Taking a short glance at the December 2020 data, TikTok was topping the charts while Telegram was not even in the top five. But the tables have turned within a month favoring Telegram.
On the top ten list of overall non-gaming app downloads, we have Telegram, TikTok, Signal, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, ZOOM, MX TakaTak, Snapchat, and Messenger. The pre-installed Apple apps and Google apps were not included in the list.
