As the base price for the flagship smartphones has peaked above Rs. 100K, more and more smartphone companies are also competing for the mid-range budget smartphones under 30000 or Rs. 30,000-40,000. Previously ruled by Chinese OEMs like Xiaomi, Honor, Vivo, and OPPO, Samsung has recently entered this segment with its new Galaxy M and A-series smartphones. However, it’s always difficult to choose from the similar-looking smartphones, both in design and specs wise. And here’s why we have gathered all the top smartphones under 30000 in Nepal in this post.
Best smartphones under 30000 in Nepal 2020 to buy
To compile this list and rank the smartphones under Rs. 30000, we have considered the following things:
- Camera quality
- Mechanical moving parts (like pop-up cameras)
- Processing power
- Brand recognition
- Battery capacity
- Display tech and resolution
- Release date and OS version
- Adoption of waterdrop design or regular larger notches

Vivo Y17
Vivo Y17 is an upgrade to the company 2013’s low-end Y15 smartphones. The phone performs better for the price range in the camera department with a triple-camera setup camera on its back. The main camera module is 13MP, f/2.2, while the other two are an 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide lens, and a 2MP, f/2.4 depth sensor. On the front, a 20MP, f/2.0 selfie camera is housed by waterdrop notch.
However, the Y17 is a disappointment considering the display and processing power. The handset has a mediocre 6.35-inch with a 720-by-1544 resolution display and is powered by MediaTek Helio P35 chipset. But with a combination of 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage, priced 2K lower than for Honor 8X’s similar memory variant, the Y17 could probably compensate for the disappointment for non-gamers.
Why should you buy?
- Decent camera quality
- Enough storage space
- Less-distracting notch
- Recently released, increasing the chances of getting newer versions of Android in the future.

OPPO A5 2020
Recently launched OPPO A5 2020 (alongside OPPO A9 2020) is straight upgrade to the last year’s A5 but still, the A5 (2020) could have been more competing with the features. The A5 2020 does try to impress the smartphone enthusiasts with its larger 6.5 inches display with a water-drop notch, quad rear cameras (12MP + 8MP + 2MP + 2MP) and massive 5000mAh battery with reverse charging.
But little did it know, the A5 2020 miserably failed with 720p display, SD665, MicroUSB, and 8MP selfie shooter. As you see the A5 2020 and the Mi A3 have similar flaws —poor screen resolution and low-tier SoC— but Mi A3 covers this over better selfie sensor, more memory, and of course, swift Android One.

Samsung Galaxy A50
The Galaxy A50 shares a similar design approach with the other A-series family smartphones, glass-like plastic body, waterdrop notch and little chin at the bottom. However, there are noticeable upgrades to the display size, processing power, and rear camera.
The handset has a 6.4-inch tall 1080-by-2340 resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio display, with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The A50 packs an in-house Exynos 9610 chipset with Mali-G72 MP3 as a graphics processing component. Besides, the phone sports a decent triple camera combination on its back; a 25MP as the main camera module, an 8MP for ultrawide aid, and a 5MP depth sensor. On the front, teardrop notch confines a 25MP selfie camera.
Why should you buy?

Nokia is in love with Google, yeah, it seems so! Because recently all of the Nokia phones in the market come with bloatware-free stock Android one out of the box and Nokia 7.2 is no exception. And this guarantees 2 years of software updates and 3 years of security patches, which adds real value to the phone making it one of the best smartphones t buy under 30000 in Nepal.
Other than the delicious Android One, the Nokia 7.2 does justify its price with 48MP + 8MP dual rear cameras, 20MP front-facing camera, and Gorilla Glass 3 protected FHD+ display. However, the phone does fail to impress with mediocre SD660 chipset and 3500mAh battery.
The Nokia 7.2 available in the Nepali market is of 4/64Gb variant and is priced at a very reasonable price of Rs. 23,999. Read Nokia 7.2’s detailed initial impression here to discover if the device suits your requirements or not.

Vivo S1
The S1 is the Vivo’s latest take on the smartphones under 40000 price segment in Nepal. The phone comes with eye-pleasing gradients and patterns on the back and a 6.38-inch Super AMOLED FHD+ display on the front.
There is a dewdrop notch, that confines 32MP selfie camera, to improve your immersive viewing experience, however, the chin at the bottom gives off. Sporting the first of the Helio P65 chipset, the device comes with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which can further be expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card.
On the camera department, there is nothing sort of amazing, as it houses a mediocre 16MP + 8MP + 5MP triple cameras on the back. On paper, it looks great, but performance-wise, the cameras don’t live up to it. The Vivo S1 comes with FunTouch OS 9 atop Android 9.0 Pie and packs a 4,500mAh battery with 18W fast charging support.

Xiaomi Mi A3
Despite features packed for affordable prices, if the bloatware-d MIUI OS is stopping you to buy Xiaomi handsets, wait, Xiaomi has an answer to that; Mi A3. The A-series lineup from Xiaomi, from the start, has pure stock Android running in its veins and so Mi A3 is no different and what makes it appealing.
Everything on Mi A3 would be shiny and glittery (for the price it is sold for) only if it hadn’t gone with the HD+ display and low-tier Snapdragon 665 chipset. But still, Android 9.0 (Android One) out of the box which guarantees up to (at least) two years of software upgrades and an extra year of security patches saves the day. Not to forget, dual-glass back design and a capable 48MP + 8MP + 2MP rear camera setup with 32MP selfie shooter.
If you are in a dilemma whether or not to buy this Android One smartphone, this Xiaomi Mi A3 impression post should help.

Under the hood, Snapdragon S75 (11nm) powers the phone coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which can further be expanded up to 1TB via a shared SIM slot.
